The following article is from my friend Diane Fletcher. She is a powerful writer who has amazing ideas for everyday life. Make sure you check her out.
What is a resolution? I think resolutions are the goals we know we won’t keep. Really. We think we are supposed to make them at the beginning of each year, but many times, we end up picking the ones that we have failed to keep in the past.
How about this? We change the word resolutions to promises.
Now it’s a whole new ballgame.
A promise is serious stuff. We don’t want to break promises. You would really, really try not to break a promise to a friend—why is it ok to break a promise to yourself?
So, here are 10 promises that I know you can keep.
(Just don’t call them resolutions! It will make a huge difference.
)

- Let go of a resentment. Every time the resentment comes to mind, say to yourself, “Oh, that is soooo last year!”
- Stand up a few times each day and say, “Life is Good!”
- Buy fruit. Eat it.
- For one day, don’t talk about anyone else.
- Pack or make a healthy lunch once a week.
- Write a thank you note to someone.
- Walk 10 minutes a day, even if it is inside your house or office.
- Look through your closet and pick out five things you do not wear anymore. Start a bag for Goodwill, Dress for Success or some other group you know that needs clothes.
- Commit to getting more sleep. (Tip: Try not taking your laptop or phone to bed with you.)
- At the end of each day, think about 5 things you were successful with, no matter how small.
There, don’t those look simple? Look over that list again. This list touches on all of the important parts that will make your life happier: (And you know I am all about Happy!)
- Taking care of your health
- Being grateful,
- Being kind
- Sharing
- Letting go of what drags you down mentally and physically
- Stress Reduction
- Joy
Life is good when you keep your promises!
